About
It all started back in 2020 when everyone was stuck at home during COVID (just like every other online business).
A good friend who has asked to remain anonymous because they're embarrassed of me now shot a text over one day saying "Bud! Have you heard of this tik-tok thing?!"
Being as detached from social media as I was at the time, the response was immediately "You mean that ke$ha song from a decade ago? It's pretty not bad I guess".
Turns out, this had nothing to do with the song, and had everything to do with a Chinese video sharing platform that was skyrocketing in popularity.
This friend, who we'll call "Schmevin" because his name definitely isn't Kevin, suggested making some videos on the app to share Canadian humor, like I had previously been doing on "Vine" nearly ten years prior, up until the time that it was closed down for good.
Turns out Schmevin was on to something, because the videos caught on immediately, and within a couple of months, the million follower milestone was quickly surpassed.
As the videos continued to grow in popularity, other friends started to notice them and repeatedly said "Man, you gotta make merch! Every influencer has merch!"
For starters, I'm not an influencer, I'm some jackass uploading joke videos to the internet from his phone; however, this also turned out to not be a terrible idea, as you, the reader could probably guess since you're on the merch shop looking at this right now.
The idea started to take roots the more it was suggested. I began to stop ignoring people who reached out hoping to produce the merch, and started to really consider the possibility of working with a garment producer on making something uniquely Canadian.
The only problem was that most of the people reaching out were either based in the USA/China, or had absolutely garbage products that they were offering.
The two most important things, were keeping as much of the production in Canada as possible, as well as ensuring that the garments were made with quality and comfort in mind.
Enter: Thomas.
Thomas reached out one day in the waning spring of 2021 and came off strong with a "we've got a solid Canadian-based merch printing business, and we'd love to work with you".
A few samples of the products were requested, and after feeling how comfortable they were and seeing the quality that they were made with, it was decided right then and there that this was the one.
Work quickly began on designing some truly Canadian graphics and slogans, and within a couple months, Thomas helped KOPKE613 merch finally get some legs underneath it, and the brand began to walk on its own.
There's been ups and downs along the way as there is with any business, but fast forward up to today and we're still here making some top quality Canadian designed and decorated merch, and have expanded production in order to offer industry leading support to our customers.
Schmevin is still kickin' it around, and the guy seems to like taking credit for the whole thing, even if he didn't contribute anything whatsoever, and thinks that the videos are kinda silly. We all know a Schmevin, that's for sure.
One thing Schmevin, Thomas, and everyone else can agree on, though. Is that the merch is absolute top-quality, and we've got the reviews from satisfied customers to back it up.
If you took all the time to read that, then you've definitely got some time to check out what we've got for sale in the shop.
Also, if you thought I did a corny job of writing this, blame Thomas. It was all his idea.
